So when I started this blog/site/thing, I was going to focus on the nintendo 64, but that would be short. With just under 300 games there would be few lists and reviews I can do. So it is natural I would look at other consoles. Especially nintendo ones.
Ice age 2 the melt down was a game I wanted to review for a while. Why? Because is it so awful that the people should be warned about it's exsistence?
The contrary, it is really good surprisingly so. Which is odd as it ticks all the bad game boxes. Kids movie license check, kids game check, play as annoying side character check. But Ice age 2 the meltdown is fun.
You play as scrats that annoying sbaretooth squirrel thing from the movie as you collect acorns. That is pretty much the aim of the game collect acorns. You have to collect a number of golden walnuts to finish each level and these are gathered by minigames or just hidden around each level.
The game is broken up by the main movie characters making the film plot happen. The best bit about this is they are short and easily ignored. They are also voiced by the main cast too.
Each time you meet or interact with a major character it takes the form of a fun mini game, such as trying to sneak acorns from diego.
The graphics are great, and look sharp and have aged pretty well. Not the best on the gamecube but really good for the time.
the character models look like their movie counterpart and enemies are quite varied taking forms of various prhestoric mammals.
The controls are spot on and sierra did a damn fine job on it. The combat is simple with a tail whip or you can throw rocks at enemies.
Ice age 2 the meltdown is a hidden in plain sight gem as you hav e probably seen it many times but just shrugged it of as crappy movie license but it is anything but crappy.
